Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the local body election would be held by amending the constitution as soon as possible.
Addressing a programme organised to mark the Sonam Lhosar festival and the Lunar New Year 2853 of the Tamang community here today, PM ‘Prachanda’ expressed commitment to ensure the rights of all the oppressed communities including indigenous nationalities, dalits, women and Madhesis through constitution amendment.
“The rights of the oppressed communities have not been guaranteed in the constitution as per their expectation and there is no alternative to steering the country ahead on the path of development by increasing the broader acceptability of the constitution through its amendment,” he said.
The Prime Minister stated that it is the government’s priority to bring back the youths who have gone abroad by creating job opportunities in the country and resolving the problems seen in the education and health sectors by freeing the country of power cuts.
He also pledged that the government would extend whatever support it can for the uplift of the Tamang community that has made unparalleled contribution to nation building, stressing on unity among all the oppressed communities for securing their rights.
Coordinator of Naya Shakti Nepal and former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai stressed on constitution implementation by ending the increasing political instability and confusion of late.
CPN (Revolutionary Maoist) chairman Mohan Baidya demanded equal participation of the Tamang community in all the state apparatuses.
Co-chairman of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Rajendra Shrestha and CPN (UML) leader Sher Bahadur Tamang accused the top leaders of the big parties of neglecting the proportional inclusive issue.
Coordinator of the Sonam Lhosar Main Programme Committee, Mohan Goley Tamang said the Tamang people are also capable when given the opportunity is exemplified by the Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Kulman Ghising who was successful in making Kathmandu Valley free from load-shedding.
The Main Programme Committee is made up of 110 various organisations and the sister organisations of political parties.
Personalities from the Tamang community as NEA director general Kulman Ghising and rights activists Laxmi Lama, Mohan Ghising, Indra Ghising and Chandra Yonzan were honoured on the occasion.
According to the Manjushree calendar followed by the Tamangs, the Year of the Bird begins from today. The last year was the Year of the Monkey.
A Sonam Lhosar festival has also been organised at Tundikhel in Kathmandu featuring the food, costumes and the art and craft of the Tamang community.
