108 metres long garland offered to the statue of late King PN Shah -

The Shiva Sena Nepal, a political party, offered a 108 metres long garland to the statue of the late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of modern Nepal, in front of the west gate to Singha Durbar today. Today or the 27th of the Nepali month Push, marks the 295th birth anniversary of the late king. Representatives of different organisations also laid bouquets on the pedestal of the late king’s statue. Earlier, the Gorkha Samaj had carried the portrait of the late king mounted on a specially decorated vehicle around the town. The vehicle finally reached Singha Durbar. The Nepal Police band had accompanied the procession. Addressing the commemoration function, founding president of the Gorkha Samaj Dr Upendra Devkota said all Nepalis should respect the late king who unified the country. He suggested that the birth anniversary of King Prithvi Narayan Shah should be celebrated as the National Unification Day. RPP chairman Kamal Thapa called on the government to hold an official function in honour of the late king on his birth anniversary marking the day as the National Unification Day.
